What comes to mind when we hear the word “heaven?” Is it streets of gold and pearly gates, loved ones that have gone before, mansions and thrones? I sat silently meditating on heaven. And it came to me that first and foremost “heaven” is The Father’s home. Heaven is the place from which all life exudes and the universe exists and hangs together by the power of His Word. Heaven is full of HIS GLORY!
Now “glory” is the splendor and majesty of The Father; it is the tangible, manifest, weighty presence of Almighty YHWH. It is the essence of His Being made visible. This “glory “ is what came and walked with Adam and Eve in the cool of the evening. It was what Moses desired to see as recorded in Exodus 33: 18, “…I pray thee, show me your glory!” It is what descended in the new Temple after Solomon dedicated the Sanctuary: “…The priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud of the Glory of the Lord filled the House of God.” (2 Chron. 5:14). It is what accompanied the Angels when they announced the birth of the Christ Child to the lowly shepherds: “…and the Glory of the Lord shone around about them and they were sore afraid.” (Luke 2:9) It is this that Christ died to restore to mankind: “It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the Glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Thess. 2:14)
We must understand that when sin separated mankind from Father YHWH, we were separated from His Glory. Thus, “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) Because of Adam’s rebellion in the garden we are all sold under sin. Sin separates. Sin has removed us from His Glory. Because of sin the tangible, weighty presence of the Almighty is no longer accessible. Not in the natural.
But, thanks be to The Father, through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice we have been restored! Given access to His Glory; reunited with His Presence. We are now able, through our Lord to once again fellowship and enjoy the Glory of our Father.
Being “in the Glory of God,” is positionally ours. But few people or congregations truly embrace this privilege experientially. First it is costly in time and effort. In time, because we have to “wait” upon Him. He refuses to be manipulated into thirty minutes on Sunday morning. We are just “playing church.” The effort we must expend is not our own works, but the effort to lay aside man made agendas and to allow the Holy Spirit to fill the spiritual atmosphere with His Glory instead of the glory of the flesh of man; difficult.
Case in point: when Jesus was transfigured on the Mount with Moses and Elijah, it was the Glory of Father YHWH that supernaturally charged the atmosphere and caused the splendor of heaven to shine on earth. Typically, Peter had a “man” idea to build some church buildings to “contain” the Glory. Wrong. Immediately , after interrupting the Presence with his impertinent input, he was rebuked by the Father and the Glory departed. Do you see how we do the same?
The Lord will not share His Glory with another. “Thy Kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” It has to be His idea.
Being in the Presence of Holy YHWH is… well…awesome. (understamement) When one enters into that secret place of the Holy of Holies there is a weighty Presence that literally takes your breath away. One is rendered speechless and often motionless. “ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last.” (Rev. 1:17) In the times that I have experienced the Glory of YHWH, individually and corporately, a Holy Hush descends that baths you spirit, soul and body. There is an inner cry that demands silence and awe. I can remember thinking, “please no one move, no one say a word…Holy, Holy is the Lord.” However, invariably, the flesh of man cannot long endure under the weight of His Presence and someone has to break the silence with a fleshly demonstration that sullies the splendor of His Glory. Ah….. even though….. once you have experienced His Glory, nothing will satisfy. Your inner man will never settle for man made spiritual entertainment. The quest will always be to enter His Glory again.
Now is the hour to seek His Face and not just His Hand. Now is the hour to press into the Glory of the Father. His Presence. We must know Him. “And this is eternal life, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, who thou hast sent.” (John 17:3) If you desire a relationship with me, you must spend time with me. If you read a book about me you may learn some facts about my life, but we will not have a relationship. You may even share those facts with others and encourage them to read the book as well. But, if you never spend time with me, walking beside me and sharing your heart with me and me with you, it is all academic.
The prayer Jesus taught His disciples to pray began this way: “Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, Thy Kingdom come Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven…” Here, now, today, the Father is seeking those that will worship Him in Spirit and Truth. Find Him, find His Glory in the secret place. Do not let the world, the desires for other things and the deceitfulness of riches rob you of a relationship with the Lord of the universe. He died to restore to you the accessibility of His Glory. His very Presence is yours. Seek Him while He may be found….on earth as it is in heaven.
