All cultures and societies have laws, rules, and community structures whether highly developed or loosely framed. These agreed upon regulations allow members of said countries or communities to function as a unit, respecting each other with a pre-approved order of behavior. Contrary to an old idiom, "rules are made to be broken", rules are made to be kept.
Almighty YHWH, knew mankind needed guidelines for a harmonious society to prosper. Therefore he gave Moses the Ten Commandments. Just ten. These ten laws were written by the finger of God on Mt. Sinai, some 2000 years before Christ came. They were given to not only act as an oil to grease the wheels of societal interactions but to display the character of the Almighty and separate sinful behavior from the lives of humankind.
The further away, we as a society, have gotten from holding these laws as absolute truth and applicable for today, our foundations as a nation has been destroyed. The systematic dismantling of this moral code has been at work for many decades. As I came of age in the 1960’s, every classroom in our southern Oklahoma high school had a framed copy of the Ten Commandments displayed in a prominent location. I can remember my eyes resting on the gold-flecked parchment during times of absolute boredom in sophomore geometry. Reading those words over and over became some how a source of not only warning but comfort . They subconsciously reinforced and underscored what I was being taught in church and at home. Foundational.
Even though modern revisionist historians and progressives decry any mention of our religious forefathers, we of the over 50 set know better. We were taught the true connection between the Pilgrims quest for religious freedom and the founding of our nations code -of -law. We know. We also know that the further we have drifted from the solid ground of our nations moorings we have found ourselves over our heads in waters of deception.
Even the organized church of today has thrown off “The Law.” Confusing the moral code with ceremonial law we have embraced a depraved kind of “grace” that lends itself to licentious and ungodly behavior. Jesus clearly states in Matthew 5:17, “Think not that I have come to destroy the law, or the prophets, I came not to destroy but to fulfill. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will not by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

When we began to remove the validity of the Ten Commandments we also eroded the truth of the entire Holy Scriptures. If we can do away with a part, why not the whole? When the foundations are removed the entire house begins to crumble. When the Holy Scriptures are no longer the standard, any man’s word becomes as important and weighty as the Word that is Living. I can vividly remember sitting in a church service a few years ago that rocked our world…not in a good sense. The pastor, an anointed prophetic speaker, strode across the platform with Bible raised over his head. He confidently proclaimed, “This book was not written for you or to you. ….you have to understand it was written a long time ago for a completely different people …a completely different culture…” You could feel the air be sucked out of the room by so many gasping Christians.
Confusion quickly filled the atmosphere and invaded the hearts of many unsuspecting believers. Not long after we left that congregation. As many more heretical statements began to flow from that polluted pulpit, others left and eventually that church folded. But, the demise began with disdaining the validity of the Living Word. The foundation was destroyed and the house came tumbling down.
I had this conversation with my thirteen year-old son on the way back from picking him up from church camp:
“Mom, one of our counselors had a really cool tattoo on his forearm.”
“Really,” I replied wanting to keep the conversation going.
“Yeah, he told me it stood for great wisdom.”
“Great wisdom comes with fearing and honoring the Lord.” I told my son,
“I don’t know what you mean, Mom,” he asserted, “My counselor, loves
“Loving God is obeying God.” I replied.
“Yeah, so?” Isaac questioned.
“Isaac, did you know that 50 years ago all the states in the Union had
laws prohibiting tattoos?” I queried him.
“Really? Why would tattoos be against the law?” he asked?
“Because it is written the Word of God that we are not to “mark” our
bodies…our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit.”
“But I don’t get it.,” Isaac insisted.
“Isaac, I am telling you that when our country was closer to the Lord,
we honored the Lord by obeying what we found written in His Holy Word.
As our culture has lost respect for God’s ways and God’s Word and God’s
Laws we have disrespected Him by doing what ever we want to do
regardless of what He has told us. Tattoos are just one example of our
rebelling against His desire for us.” I answered. (Leviticus 19:28,I Cor.
Perhaps my thirteen -year -old was not fully persuaded, but I am laying the correct foundation. May we all examine the foundation on which we are living our lives. There is only one that will not be moved. There is only one that will keep your life safe from the earthquakes of political correctness and spiritual apostasy. The Living Word of God. “He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood and His name is the Word of God. (Rev. 19.13) Read it and obey it. Amen.
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
