What we "do" now becomes what we "give" as an inheritance to our children and our children's children. As I contemplated the idea of a spiritual inheritance, the word "faithful" quickly grabbed my heart's attention. Faithful to the Word of the Lord. Faithful to His giftings and callings. Faithful to hear and obey .Faithful to recognize sin in my life. Faithful to repent. Faithful to be faithful.
Faithful: loyal, constant, true, devoted, true-blue, unswerving, staunch, steadfast, dedicated and committed ...
These beautiful words inspire courage and right-living. A true picture of the life of Christ and His perfect life of faithfulness. And even though my heart witnesses with the faithfulness of our Lord, sadly much of my life has not truly represented this divine virtue. My intentions and my actual behavior have often been diametrically opposed; not intentionally, but the reality of life is imperfection. Alas, I found consolation and comfort in II Timothy 2:13 ..."If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny himself." Confession having been made, faithfulness still calls to me like the church bells on Sunday morning. Tolling out the time for prayer and of the gathering together of the Saints, the consistent chiming encourages my soul to reflect upon the goodness of a faithful God. I want to be like Him. Not just for my own testimony, not just for an act of obedience, but, also, for all those who come behind me. Steve Green, talented songwriter and composer echoes the rhythm of my heartbeat concerning faithfulness with these words: And after all our hopes and dreams have come and gone, And our children sift through all we've left behind, May the clues that they discover and the memories they uncover, Become the light that leads them to the road we each must find. Let us run the race not only for the prize, but as those who've gone before us, let us leave to those behind us the heritage of faithfulness passed on through godly lives. Oh, may all who come behind us find us faithful! may the fire of our devotion light their way. May the footprints that we leave, lead them to believe, and the lives we live inspire them to obey. Oh, may all who come behind us find us faithful...." Amen.
