In the vernacular, we might say: "What goes around comes around." or "You get what you give out."
Regardless of how you it express it verbally, it does not change this spiritual law. If you are kind, others will be kind to you.
If you are a constant pain in the side of your neighbor, get ready, your pain is on the way, if it has not yet arrived.
This ancient truth is taught in several different ways in the Holy Scriptures. One passage that stands out in my mind is found in Mark 4:26, " Jesus said, 'The Kingdom of God is as if a man should cast seed on the earth, and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should spring up and grow, he doesn't know how. For the earth bears fruit..."
Analogous to seed are our words, actions, thoughts and deeds. Gracious words sown in the heart of the hearer will reproduce in response words of kindness. Good deeds spawn good deeds. We truly have the power to frame our world for good or evil with our own mouths and accompanying actions.
Jesus taught us that if we want the Father to forgive us we must forgive others. Reciprocal acts are written into the DNA of the whole earth. If we plant apple seeds we will one day reap a harvest of apples. If, however, you refuse to plant the apple seed you will never have the pleasure of watching the seed become a sprout, the sprout a sapling, the sapling a tree, and the tree the bearer of much fruit.
We must understand the laws of nature and thus spiritual laws as well. The planting of the seed will one day bring forth after it's own kind. Understandably, the harvest comes later and will produce much more than what you plant: one seed, one tree, one harvest of hundreds of apples. The harvest may tarry, or the harvest may come in the same year, regardless it will come. What we sow we will reap. Sow to the flesh and reap to the flesh...sow to the Spirit and reap to the spirit. What you give and to whom determines what you receive and from which kingdom. It is simple. Smiles reap smiles in return, curse and curses will be your portion. This is not rocket science. Ever wonder why the Lord instructed us to bless those who curse us? This seemingly exercise in futility is actually changing the spiritual atmosphere in which you live. The air around you will respond to your blessing those who have cursed, changing the power of their poison into a sweet release for your soul. Try it.
This truth grows bigger as we understand that there are eternal consequences to our life responses. Consider Galatians 6:7, Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
Freely we have received let us freely give...all things that are from the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. Amen.
....if you give a little love you can get a little love of your own...don't break His heart....
