So what is it that shackles us? Our past, our passions, our possessions? Perhaps our plans or perceptions? What negative emotions rule our mind and determine our thoughts, words and deeds. These are powerful spirits of death that rob of us of today by chaining us to defeat under the guise of "personality weaknesses."
Jesus never spoke of "personality weaknesses." He never excused sinful behavior with a simplistic platitudes that comforted iniquitous spirits. Plainly, he commanded those that had ears to hear to: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
Bravely, he dispatched tormenting demons to wonder in the dry places until their day of eternal judgement.
Jesus was and is all about freedom. He absolutely came "to set the captive free. " Whether it was a "spirit of infirmity," that had bowed the daughter of Abraham for 18 years (Luke 13: 10-16) or the demoniac that ran naked in the cemeteries of the Gaderenes, Jesus spoke to the unclean spirits and commanded them to vacate the human bodies they were defiling. These dear people were held in bondage, chained to the oppressive power of the devil. Ever true to the character of His Father, Jesus immediately relieved their suffering and restored them by the Word of His destiny. (Acts 10:38)
If our Lord was suddenly standing in front of you with outstretched arm, would you run from his holiness or fall before him in worship and adoration? Would His eyes pierce your soul and bring to light the hidden thoughts and secrets of your heart? What chains would you allow him to remove from your life? ...pornography?....hatred?....murder?....lust?...apathy?....indifference?....anger?....perversion?....resentment?....bitterness?..unforgiveness?....gossip?....homosexuality?....adultery?....strangeflesh?......hard hardheartedness?....infirmity?....fear?...doubt?....unbelief?....deceit?....deception?....lying?....the list is endless....
Or, like the Pharisees, would you puff out your chest and brazenly declare: "We are Abraham's descendants and have never been slaves of anyone How can you say that we shall be set free?" (Jn. 8:35)
Only the precious blood of Jesus can cleanse us of sin and set us free from the shackles of the evil one. Cry out to Him today. Admit your need. Tell Him you are so tired of enduring the heavy weight of the sin-infested spirits that have manipulated your mind and life. Call unto him and he will answer you! "For whom the Son makes free, he is free indeed!"
( Jn. 8:36)
"Because he loves me," says the Lord, " I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him, and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation." (Ps. 91: 14-16)
